What is actually on the pre-roll shelf

A pre-roll is ground cannabis flower rolled and ready to light. The shelf splits three ways, and knowing which you want cuts the browsing in half.

Picking one

Straight flower or infused

Most of the case is straight flower, which is exactly what it sounds like: ground bud in a paper, nothing added. What you taste is the strain, and the THC sits wherever that strain sits. If you already know you like a cultivar in cannabis flower, a pre-roll of the same name is the same smoke in a form you do not have to roll.

An infused pre-roll is flower with concentrate, kief or hash rolled in, and it hits harder than the number on the pack suggests. It also burns slower, which is the part that catches people out. Treat half of one as a full joint and you will have a better evening than if you treat it the other way round. If you are new to concentrates in general, the same rule holds on the concentrate shelf: start low and give it twenty minutes.

Read the pack

Total THC and the roll weight are printed on every pack in New York. The weight, not the percentage, tells you how much you are actually smoking.

Freshness

A pre-roll dries out faster than a jar of flower because the paper and the grind expose more surface. Buy from a case that turns over, and keep what you do not smoke sealed and out of the sun.

One at a time

Packs are sealed by the manufacturer and stay sealed until they leave the store. That is a New York rule, and it is also why the case turns over the way it does.

Worth knowing

Why a pre-roll is not just convenience

Rolling a good joint is a small craft, and a machine-rolled one is consistent in a way most hand rolls are not. That matters more than it sounds: an even grind and an even pack burn evenly, and an uneven one runs down one side and wastes half the flower. If you have ever had a joint canoe on you, that is the reason.

The trade-off is choice of grind and how much air is in the pack, which is why some people still buy flower and roll their own from a cultivar they love. Both are on the same shelf. If you want the exotic strains this store is known for, they show up in pre-roll form as the brands release them, and the case is the first place to look.

Three ways to buy

Getting pre-rolls out the door

Everything on the online menu is the physical case in the building, so if a pack is showing in stock it is in the case. Small drops sell through fast, which is the one reason to order ahead rather than drive over and hope.

The daily specials apply to pre-rolls the same as everything else, on pickup and delivery as well as at the counter.

1

Walk in

Bring a government photo ID showing 21 or older. Free parking in front, and the pre-roll case is a few steps past the door.

2

Order ahead for pickup

Choose your packs on the menu, pick pickup, and it is usually ready in about 15 minutes with the items held for you.

3

Same-day delivery

Our same-day delivery covers Niagara Falls, the Tonawandas, Wheatfield, Lewiston and Sanborn on store hours.

Pre-roll questions

How many joints are in a pre-roll pack?

It depends on the brand. Singles are one joint, and multi-packs run from two up to five or more, usually with each joint around half a gram. The pack weight and the joint count are both printed on the label, so the price per joint is a quick division once you are holding it. If you are trying a strain for the first time, a single tells you more than a five pack.

Is a pre-roll weaker than the same flower in a jar?

Not by design, but freshness and grind decide a lot. A fresh pre-roll from a case that turns over smokes the same as the flower it was rolled from. One that has sat for months dries out and burns hot and harsh, which reads as weaker even when the THC number is identical.

Can I open a pre-roll pack to check it before I buy?

No. Sealed retail packaging in New York stays sealed until it leaves the store, and that applies to pre-roll packs the same as flower jars. What you can do is ask a budtender what came in this week and how long it has been on the shelf, and you will get a straight answer.

Do infused pre-rolls cost more than the regular ones?

Almost always, and for a good reason: there is concentrate or kief in them on top of the flower, so you are paying for both. The gap is usually a few dollars on a single joint and widens on packs. If you are chasing the strongest smoke in the case, that is where the money goes.

How should I store pre-rolls so they do not go stale?

Airtight, cool, dark and closed. A pre-roll goes dry faster than a jar of flower because the paper and the grind expose more surface to air, and a pack left open on a car dash is flat by the next evening. The pack it came in is built for the job, so keeping it sealed between sessions is the whole trick.

Can I order pre-rolls for delivery if I am staying in a hotel?

Yes. Delivery runs to Niagara Falls addresses including the hotel strip on store hours, and the order still needs a government photo ID showing 21 or older at the door. If you are only in town for a night, pickup is often faster, since pre-rolls are usually bagged and ready in about fifteen minutes.
