Indica, sativa and hybrid, honestly
The three-way split is a useful shorthand and a poor science. Two jars labeled indica from different growers can behave nothing alike, because what actually drives the effect is the terpene profile and the ratio of cannabinoids, not the category printed on the front. What the label is genuinely good for is narrowing a shelf of sixty jars down to five worth smelling.
So use it as a starting point and then ask. Tell a budtender what you want the evening to look like, what you have liked before and what you want to stay under, and you will get two or three jars pulled out of the glass display counter rather than a walk down the whole shelf. That conversation is worth more than any label on any jar.

What the numbers on the label mean
Every jar in New York carries lab results, and the number people look at first is total THC. It is worth knowing that it is a ceiling rather than a promise: how the flower was grown, cured and stored decides how much of that potential actually survives to the jar in front of you. A well-grown 24 percent jar routinely beats a badly handled 31 percent one.
The second number worth your attention is the terpene content, when the grower publishes it. That is what you are smelling when the jar opens, and it is the closest thing on the label to a prediction of how it will actually feel. Price per gram is the third: an eighth and an ounce of the same strain are rarely the same rate, and the daily specials move that math around through the week.
Getting flower out of the counter
Everything on the online menu is the physical shelf in the building, so if a jar is showing in stock it is in the counter. Small-batch drops sell through quickly, which is the one reason to order ahead rather than drive over and hope.
If price is what you are optimising for, look at the ounce tier and the weekly specials together. Flower Friday and the rest of the week's deals apply to pickup and delivery orders the same as they do at the counter.

Flower questions
Is buying an ounce cheaper than buying eight separate eighths?
Almost always, and often by a wide margin. Larger weights carry a lower price per gram on nearly every strain in the counter, which is why the ounce tier is where regulars shop. The trade-off is committing to one cultivar instead of trying several, so plenty of people buy an ounce of a staple and an eighth of something new.
Does a higher THC percentage mean better flower?
No. THC is a ceiling, not a guarantee. Growing, curing and storage decide how much of the terpene and cannabinoid content actually reaches you, and a well-grown jar in the mid twenties regularly outperforms a poorly handled jar in the low thirties. Smell it and look at it before you let the number decide.
How should flower be stored so it does not dry out?
Airtight, cool, dark and away from a window. Heat and light break down terpenes faster than anything else, and a jar left on a sunny sill goes flat within days. The container it comes in is designed for the job, so leaving it in there and keeping it closed is usually the whole answer.
What is the difference between indoor and outdoor grown flower?
Indoor gives the grower control over light, temperature and humidity, which is why it usually looks and smells more intense and costs more. Outdoor and greenhouse flower can be excellent and is generally better value per gram. Most of what sits on the exotic end of this counter is indoor.
Can I smell the flower before I buy it in New York?
Jars in the glass display counter can be looked at closely and a budtender will bring one over, but sealed retail packaging stays sealed until it leaves the store. What you can do is ask what came in this week and get an honest answer about how it smelled when it was checked in.
How much flower can one person buy here in a single visit?
New York allows up to three ounces of cannabis flower per person at a time, along with up to twenty-four grams of concentrate. The counter tracks it on the purchase, so there is nothing to work out yourself, and the limit applies per person rather than per order.
